<p>So you bought you Flat Screen ;HDTV and your Blu-ray player and you called your Cable company to send you an HD Cable receiver. I had to make several trips and phone calls to the Cable company&#8217;s store to get my HD Cable Receiver. They seem to not have enough in stock all the time.  ;Now that you have all the devices, you need to connect them, and for that you will need 2 HDMI cables at the right length. The right HDMI cable length depends of how far  ;your TV is from your cable box and/or your Blu-ray player. Use 6-ft HDMI cables if your TV sits on a stand with the devices right below or <a title="10-15ft HDMI cables" href="http://www.nextdaytechs.com/product/10ft_1080p_and_3D_HDMI_cable.html">10-15ft HDMI cables</a> if your <a title="TV mounted on the wall" href="http://www.nextdaytechs.com/csubtype/Flat_Screen_TV_Installation.html" target="_self">TV is mounted on the wall</a>.</p>
<p><strong>First Connection Option</strong></p>

<p>Once you have everything in place then the connection it&#8217;s easy just use one HDMI cable to connect your TV to the cable box and one HDMI Cable to connect your Blu-ray Player to the TV. You will then from the TV remote be able to select which device to play. Most new HDTV&#8217;s remotes  ;have a button called &#8220;Input&#8221; or &#8220;Source&#8221;. Once you click on that, you will be able to select which device plays. So for example, if you had connected your HD Cable box to HDMI1 port of your TV, then from the TV remote you would select HDMI1 in order to see cable television. If you had connected your Blu-ray player to HDMI2 port of your TV you will then select HDMI2 on the TV remote through the &#8220;Source&#8221; or &#8220;Input&#8221; button, in order to play a blu-ray disk on your TV. Use the same connection method to connect more devices to your TV, like game consoles etc.</p>

<p>The more devices you add the more HDMI Cables you will need. That can represent a problem if your TV is mounted on the walland the cables are concealed inside the wall. Also you might not have enough space in the wall to fish the HDMI Cable through. So how an HDMI switch connects your TV with your Video and Audio Components? Here is how: Connect all your devices including the TV into the HDMI switch using various lengths of HDMI cables. So the HDMI switch will be the hub of all connections. Connect your TV to &#8220;output&#8221; of the switch and all other devices, cable box, blu-ray etc. to &#8220;input&#8221; of the HDMI switch. You will then use the remote control of your HDMI switch to choose which device plays on your TV. In order to use the HDMI switch you have to make sure that the &#8220;source&#8221; or &#8220;input&#8221; of your TV is the HDMI port that is connected to the output of the switch. So if you have connected your TV to the switch through port HDMI1 then you have to select HDMI1 as the source in order to operate the HDMI switch.</p>
