<p>Let&#8217;s first start, with what is HDMI. HDMI is a standard that let audio and video devices talk to each other. HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. It was invented by Sony, Toshiba and some other companies to make it easy on consumers to connect their audio and video devices. HDMI is software or a specification that is embedded inside the chips of TV&#8217;s, Blu-ray players and other audio video devices. HDMI software started with version 1.0 and then had updates of 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4. HDMI 1.4 is the latest upgrade and it is faster, provides for better resolution, passes 3D signals, Audio Video return etc.</p>
<p>And then we have the HDMI cables that connect 2 components or devices with each other. If one device has HDMI software that is 1.2 and the other device has HDMI software that is 1.4 then they will communicate with the older HDMI specification or 1.2. So what role does the HDMI cables play? not much other than the shielding or how well they are manufactured.</p>
